Felipe Wurst is a Brooklyn-based music producer, composer and studio guitarist/ bass player originally from Lima, Peru. He is a versatile player who focuses on groove-oriented popular music genres and hybrid analog & digital recording techniques. As a guitarist he has performed with groups including: Tipa Tipo, La Mecanica Popular, La Lá, Jachary, the New York Times-praised Momenta String Quartet, DJ Mel DeBarge and the Grammy-nominated Latin sensation Bareto. He has played at notable venues including the Apollo Theater, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, National Sawdust, Rough Trade Brooklyn & BAM, among others.
His latest commercial release was Tipa Tipo’s 2024 album “Cintas” - a collaboration with music producer & composer Adele Fournet, a sonic exploration of the blend of South & North American musical languages, where the duo fuses the spirit of '70s soft rock and disco with latin rhythms to create their fresh take on tropical yacht rock. Tipa Tipo has garnered media attention from outlets like Rolling Stone Español and Paste Magazine, a position on one of Apple Music’s top playlists called the “Comfort Zone’, and rotation play on the radio stations KEXP and KCSN, WFUV, and WXPN (World Café from NPR). “Cintas” was named one of the top Peruvian albums of 2024 by Rock Achorao. Their single “Voy Por Ella'' was recently featured on the Mexican TV series “Soy Tu Fan.” Chris Sanley, music director of KEXP, writes of the band: “The band’s fusion of both retro and contemporary cumbia, disco and soft rock while incorporating sounds from South and North America results in spellbinding rhythms, infectious pop hooks and endless grooves.”
Felipe works out of The Honey Jar recording studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
